“If you lift heavy weights but still eat crappy foods, you’re just going to put a bunch of muscle on top of fat, so you’ll end up looking bulky,” says Garrick, who has competed, too. She placed seventh in her category last year, for example, in a competition hosted by World Beauty Fitness and Fashion Inc., a Toronto-based event organizer focused on fitness, sports and fashion.

“For me, weight training is a lifestyle that goes deeper than just wanting to look good. It’s more about having a healthy body….

What is your proudest achievement so far?

My acting career thus far, has been very rewarding. In a very short period of time I have landed some pretty cool roles. Some of the brands I have worked with are Spectrum Mobile, Crown Royal, Heineken, Holiday Inn, Butterball and more. I have also been in some really amazing music videos both local and international artists. Some artists you may have heard of are Ozuna, Sean Paul, Mr.Vegas, Lil Berete, Nanna Goodie, Nikki Yanofsky, Shawnee and more.

How will you describe your fashion style?

My style is very androgynous, you can often catch me out in public in a combination of women and men’s attire. I usually go for a fitted top with baggy pants or a baggy top with fitted pants. Of course there’s always an exception to the rule. My style essence is very much a reflection of me as a person which is extremely eclectic.

I am somewhere along the lines of tomboy meets corporate boss lady, meets 80’s hip hop dancer, meets fitness model, meets chic diva, meets punk rock, meets the occasional emo kid all in one. My fashion heavily depends on how I feel in the morning or where I am making an appearance.

1. What inspired you to get into this industry?

In the more recent years of my life, my mental health took a serious 180 and began to become debilitating in various arenas of my life. I turned to fitness for balance and overall wellness. It has now become my passion to educate others on the seriousness of mental health as well as the importance of having a balanced lifestyle. People don’t really understand the severity of mental health nor the impact a healthy lifestyle can make on someone with mental illness. Eating the right foods and exercising is nonetheless good for everyone. You begin to value that lifestyle once become a part of it…
